Growing up, you hear that botox is only for old people. If you were raised in a Black household, you think botox is only for White people. With the ongoing trend of lip fillers and the “Kardashian look” , I wanted to see the hype behind the botox so I tried it. Before I go into my experience, I’ll share exactly what botox is and the different types.

Botox or the medical term Botulinum toxin is a “neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It’s purpose is to prevent the release of neurotransmitter acetylcholine from axon endings at the neuromuscular junction and thus causes flaccid paralysis” (Wiki) In much easier term, it is a liquid that freezes different parts of your body.

Besides the cosmetic purposes, botox can be used for

  • Muscle Spasticity

  • Excessive Sweating

  • Migraines

  • Certain kinds of Acne

The contouring effect is becoming more permanent with the new kinds of botox. You can achieve the clean jawline with just a few injections. I booked an appointment at the The Indigo Clinic with Dr. Zoe back in March. I followed her for a few months and when I finally got the courage to do the procedure, I knew she was the only doctor to do it for me. I was very scared about the procedure but trust me I wanted it so no fear was going to hold me back. I was very self-conscious about my cheeks because they are big and no matter how adult-ish I try to look, I always fall short. With my new found adulthood, I wanted a more adult appearance. I believed a sleeker jawline would bring that and it did.

Dr. Zoe was absolutely amazing, this is not a #ad I must say. From the moment I walked in I felt welcomed and comfortable. I checked in and she looked up my appointment I was scheduled for. My procedure was called “Botox/Xeomin/Dysport in my Jawline”. She explained to me before starting that the procedure would be quick and I would not see results for about 3-4 weeks. Before I finish I must say, I do not like needles. I am terrified of needles so this was also a fear of mines. 1. 2. 3 DONE! The procedure was painless and extremely fast. I have a pretty low tolerance for pain so I was feeling myself knowing I had a needle so close to my face. Even though she said 2 weeks, I saw results by the end of the week and after month one, I am feeling myself even more. I have’t returned for new appointment but trust me I will.

Ladies remember, do what makes you happy. Do your research on the procedures and doctors and get the things that will make you happy. I found Dr. Zoe on Instagram at first and followed her for some time before deciding to go. What really bought me to her was her openness. Before she does any procedure, she tries it on herself first! That is a major plus for me, you have to be able to know the side effects before stating them.

Thank you Dr. Zoe !
