These Acids are Actually Good For Your Skin

When you think of acids, you do not automatically think of something good for the skin.  Most times, brands tend to stray away from using the word on the front of bottle and packages. Since we are now in an age of clean living and healthier product, brands have become more forthcoming about what is exactly in their products. You see brands creating products that advertise exactly what is in it. Ingredients such as hylauronic acid, glycolic acid and more have been some the most sought ingredients within products.  All products listed below are AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) which are great for skincare products. It is suggested that those who have sensitive or super dry skin stray away from AHA acids. We’ve created a list of acids to look for and what they do for you.

Glycolic Acid

Skin Type: All skin types except Sensitive

Gycolic acid are one of more popular acids to find in products. It is most often used in products where people are dealing with skin problems such as hyperpigmentation and sun damage. It is great for evening out skintones. It works best in serums and moisturizers. Glycolic acids are great with clearing pores and breakouts. 

Lactic Acid

Skin Types: Dry and Sensitive

Lactic acid is considered one of the holy grail’s of skin products. This acid assists with smoothing fine lines and decreases dullness in skin. It is an active ingredient that is fast acting. It leaves skin looking youthful and plump. Lactic Acid is mostly found in serums and acts as an exfoliate to remove dead skin.

Salicylic Acid

Skin Type: Oily Combination

Salicylic acid is great for inflammatory purposes. This acid helps with redness and calms acne breakouts. If you are prone to oil spills throughout the day products with this ingredient may help. It unclogs your pores to prevent the excess oils. Salicylic acids are mostly found in gel based products. Serums with Salicylic acid are great for minimizing blackheads and whiteheads as well.

Malic Acid

Skin Type: All except sensitive

Malic acid is one that is often found in alot of fruits and vegetables with one of the most popular being apples. Malic acid is known for smoothing the skin and filling fine lines on the face. Malic acid is most popular for anti-aging products. Like some of the previous acids mentioned, it cleans out pores and uses exfoliation to clear the buildup caused by oils and impurities.
